Lord of The Flies

  Summary

The story starts in a time of a nuclear war, and an airplane carrying British boys is shot and fell on a desert island in the middle of the Pacific ocean. The pilot dies, however the boys did not.

Ralph and Piggy are the firsts characters to show up in the story. Ralph is a handsome and confident boy, and Piggy is a fat and asthmatic boy, but very smart. They first find a shell and Ralph blows it to try to call attention of any survivers, so it did, many children appear and then an assemby is required by Ralph. Jack comes afterwards with his choir. Jack is not kind as Ralph and he also is agressive and soon demonstrates his desire to be leader. So, an election is made, and Ralph wins.

After the election, Ralph calls Jack and Simon to go to the top of a hill to chek if they really are in a desert island. So, after a long walk, they discover that they really are in a desert island, so they decide to look for food.

As time goes by, things change, speacially their behavior. Jack and his choir become hunters and this job affects their behavior in a way that once the laws which theirselves created , it is totally useless. So, the story concentrates in the division of the group, which Jack represents the evil and the bad side, as his group, and Ralph represents the vestige of society and humanity. However, in the end, all of the vestiges of goodness are eliminated little by little, first with the death of Simon, who was absolutly and naturally good, and then Piggy, which was the representation of smartness.

William Golding shocks us in how they use children in this story, children that once we think cute, sweet, sensible, and in Lord of The Flies, these cute things are able to do things in a certain situation never imaginated to our society mind. Lord of The Flies won the Nobel for no reason but perfeccionism and how it involves the reader, how it makes us feel shocked, and when we finish reading, how it makes us think about how far we can go in a hard situation, sometimes, so far until wake up the beast inside each of us.
